Vascular Testing of Feet and Lower Limb
An important aspect of preventing Diabetic foot complications, and the related morbidity rate, is ensuring that each diabetic patient has sufficient circulation to their feet. At each visit, our podiatrists check the pulses in your feet by feeling the arteries on the top of the foot and on the ankle. If the pulses are difficult to palpate and the patient has related symptoms, such as cramping in your legs while walking or while laying in bed at night, we can perform a non-invasive vascular exam. This can be done in the office in just 15 minutes. We will obtain an exact measurement of the bloodflow in which you are receiving to each foot. This measurement is recorded in your medical files and we will send a copy the doctor who is managing your diabetic care. This exam is part of the Comprehensive Diabetic Foot Examination (CDFE).
If any concerns arise, we work closely with vascular specialists in the dayton/springfield area to further evaluate if intervention is required. All diabetics should have this test performed every 6-12 months to determine if there are any risks for diabetic foot complications.
